Senior staff pay

In light of the uncertain financial position due to COVID-19, Personnel Committee considered possible pay mitigations for the next financial year, and its recommendations were approved by Council on 22 June. These mitigations include putting all discretionary pay awards for all staff groups on hold until further notice. This includes the ALC6 salary reviews.

BACKGROUND

Senior Researcher (RSIV)

Senior research staff who are recognised international experts providing intellectual leadership in a specialist area and establishing the strategic direction of a major research programme.

Senior Administrative Officer (ALC6)

Senior managerial and professional staff providing leadership of major University functions.

SETTING PAY

Senior Researcher (RSIV)

Spot salaries for individuals which are agreed on recruitment, taking the size of the role, market pay, internal comparators and the view of the external funding body into account. Salaries are approved by the SAP.

Senior Administrative Officer (ALC6)

Spot salaries for individuals which are agreed on recruitment, taking the size of the role, market pay, and internal comparators into account. Salaries are approved by the SAP.

 

PAY AWARDS

Cost of living increases are negotiated nationally by UCEA on an annual basis and are effective from 1 August each year.

PAY PROGRESSION

Senior Researcher (RSIV)

Salaries may be increased for retention purposes with approval from the SAP. RSIV staff with title are eligible to apply for Professorial Merit Pay. A salary for those without title is timed to coincide with the Professorial Merit Pay Exercise.

Senior Administrative Officer (ALC6)

A biennial ALC6 salary review is conducted by the SAP. Salaries may be increased for retention purposes with approval from the SAP.
